Limited production of 500 each, they’re expensive !
Earlier this year in June Subaru announced a limited run of track focused STIs and BRZs. So the names ended up as Type RA for the STI and Type tS for the BRZ. According to a report from MotorTrend there will only be 500 of each variant built, also they had promised to reveal the pricing date sooner or later this year, well today is the day when final price has been revealed.
If you’re willing to buy the top of the line Type RA, Subaru says its gonna cost you $49,855 with delivery. The BRZ tS, on the other hand will be $34,355. For comparison if we talk about the STI the base variant costs $36,995 including delivery, and a base BRZ costs $26,315.
So you might now be thinking where will that extra money go for these variants ? Well if you’re choosing a Type RA you’ll now be getting more horses a new cold air intake, the new high flow performance exhaust system, a retuned ECU and stronger pistons. Subaru also invested in a short throw shifter with a new revised third gear an all new carbon fibre rood and wing which is inverted front struts, Bilstein dampers out back, retuned stability control, cross-drilled rotors with silver Brembo calipers, lighter 19-inch BBS wheels, and 245/35 R19 Yokohama Advan Sport tires for that extra road grip. Although in order to save some weight Subaru had to remove to spare wheel but added some black and red cosmetic finish and a stylish Type RA badge on the trunk. Inside, you’ll find red seat stitching, the steering wheel which is wrapped in artificial suede, a few more red accents, and a numbered plaque.
The BRZ tS on the other hand makes same amount of power as the base model but gets STI tuned Sachs dampers and coil springs, an all new V-brace in the engine bay, even more stiffer chassis, lighter 18-inch wheels, and 215/40 R18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires. Subaru now have added a manually adjustable carbon fibre rear spoiler and a black body kit for better aerodynamics. Visual changes include a few red and black accents, STI covers instead of fog lamps, and rear tS badging on the trunk. Interior changes are similar to the Type RA, with red accents here and there as the biggest noticeable change. You now however get a frameless rearview mirror.
If these above mentioned changes sound like they’re worth for you, you better start looking for the Type RA and the tS in your nearest dealership this spring.
